Why the file stays on your machine
Converting subtitles is arithmetic on timestamps and a change of punctuation around them — there is nothing in it that needs a server. So this one doesn't use one: the file is read, re-written and offered back for download by the page itself, which is why it works without an account, without a queue and without a size limit imposed by an upload. Subtitles carry what was said, sometimes before it is public: a screener, an internal recording, an interview under embargo. The safest place for that file is the machine it is already on.
